| The know-how used to develop
and manufacture rotary motors has been applied
by Baumüller to linear motors. If a
rotary permanent-field synchronous motor
is cut open lengthwise and unrolled in a
single plane, you obtain a linear motor
with a primary, made up of a lamination
stack and a copper winding, and a secondary
comprised of an iron core and permanent
magnets.
Linear direct drives offer the following
advantages over conventional solutions for
generating linear motions consisting of
a rotary motor and a mechanical power transmission
component:

This motor series features high
continuous forces and extremely compact design.
Due to these properties the series is suitable
for applications in extremely confined spaces.
For applications with maximum continuous load
requirements this series is also available with
water cooling.
